Have you ever wondered when the ideal time to schedule a newborn session is? Well if you have you are in the right place! I know when I had my son six years ago (how is he six already?!?) I didn't know the answer to this either. Since then, I have had the pleasure of photographing many sweet babies and now I know! 

For Shelby McKimmie Photography clients, I reserve off the week of your due date just for you at the time of booking. I want to make sure all my moms and newborns get top priority in my schedule because the baby comes when the baby wants to come! I keep in touch with my expecting Mommas throughout the course of their pregnancy. I, for one, love when moms share their sonogram photos and update me about this exciting journey. Of course, this is not a requirement, but I truly do value getting to know you and your family while you are pregnant. If you are having a c-section, I ask you to let me know once a date is decided on. Of course, things change so again. I am completely flexible for my newborn clients. 

Once your baby has been born, I strongly encourage us to finalize a date for when the baby is between 5 and 10 days new. Your baby will be sleepy and very relaxed during these new days of being earthside. Again, there are times when this isn't possible. My own son wasn't even discharged until day five and let's face it... Momma needed some time! So I have extended it up to thirty days depending on the circumstances. 

All of my newborn sessions are scheduled for 10am. Why 10am? The sun in most homes let's in the most light at this time of day. Pay attention in the mornings and I can almost guarantee that 10am is when your home will be the most light filled. 

When do you schedule your newborn session with me?

• Inquire with me when you reach your second trimester!
• Let me know your predicted due date so I can reserve your week!
• Once you have delivered, reach out so we can finalize your session date!
• I will be at your house by 10am when your baby is 5-10 days old!
